Michigan Great Printer

Michigan Great PrinterRogers Printing Inc. is honored to have been awarded Michigan Great Printer status which we have held since 1998. The MI-GPP works to support Great Printers by providing technical assistance and promoting the implementation of pollution prevention. Through pollution prevention, printers are able to reduce production costs through more efficient use of raw materials, thus generating less waste and the need for disposal. To become a Great Printer, a business must pledge to comply with current environmental regulations, establish a written environmental policy for their business, implement multiple pollution prevention goals biennially and report on goal accomplishments.

Energy Conservation

For over 25 years, Rogers Printing Inc. has been utilizing geo-thermal energy as a primary source to heat and cool the facility. This type of energy is a completely renewable source that encourages conservation of natural resources. In addition, whenever possible, Rogers Printing purchases Energy-Star compliant computers, monitors, and servers and uses energy efficient ballasts and light bulbs in our continuing effort to reduce energy consumption.

Air Quality

Environmental reports are mandated by the Department of Environmental Quality to be submitted on an annual basis. Rogers Printing Inc. tracks HAPS (Hazardous Air Pollutants) and VOCS (Volatile Organic Compounds) on a monthly basis to insure consistent compliance with regulations. Based on test results, which are conducted regularly by an independent infrastructure engineering and environmental service, our Catalytic Oxidizer destroys 98% of the captured VOCS and HAPS and our test results regularly fall significantly below the DEQ’s mandated levels of VOCS and HAPS.

Soy Based Ink

Printed with Soy InkRogers Printing Inc. uses soy compliant inks for four color process inkset and PMS colors on both the heatset web presses and the sheet fed presses. All new inks and chemicals are reviewed and assessed for VOCS and HAPS levels prior to serious purchasing consideration.

Waste Management

Rogers Printing Inc. is committed to re-using, reducing or recycling the by-products of our printing processes and decreasing the impact on the environment.

Reduced Materials

  • Computer to plate - our CTP equipment allows for constant regeneration of chemicals which greatly reduces usage.
  • Pre-sensitized aqueous plates - reduce chemical by-products.
  • DiAlogue, an interactive in-line soft proofing system, reduces paper and proofing material use, minimizing environmental impact.

Recycled Materials

  • Waste ink is repurposed for electric generation.
  • Waste Paper, including all office paper, unprinted white paper, roll headers and wrappers, printed waste, fiber cores, and cardboard.
  • Customer Materials - many customers request Rogers Printing pick up their unused and outdated marketing collateral for recycling.
  • Steel Strapping / Poly Strapping
  • Exposed film
  • Developer / fix
  • Press Blanket Bars
  • Used Printing Plates

Reused Materials

  • Ink Packaging - Ink buckets and pails are sent back to our ink suppliers where they are reused.
  • Ink cartridges and laser printer cartridges are donated to various non-profit organizations.
  • Skids and palettes - Our customers return skids which are reused. Eventually they are recycled back into new skids or skid tops.
  • Waste Aqueous Coatings
  • Spent Lubrication Oils
  • Web and Sheetfed Spent Solvent

Internal Procedures

  • We employ proactive press maintenance schedules that enable our equipment to run more efficiently, thereby extending the life of the equipment that, when replaced, would enter the solid waste stream. Our Efficiency Standards are monitored on a monthly basis to insure we are operating at consistently high levels. Lean manufacturing processes are employed and the reduction of spoilage is continually assessed and managed. Continual process improvement is managed throughout the entire company to ensure our workflows and manufacturing processes are as environmentally friendly as possible.
